Evergreen Idol 2011 welcomed New-Comer Kate Wirth With Open Arms!
Kate participated in Evergreen Idol 2011 this year, the 10th season for the contest but Kate’s first season participating.
Evergreen Idol is a karaoke competition held each year for the past 10 years at the Evergreen State Fair. It’s hosted by Evergreen Idol sponsor Sound Light Karaoke.
Here’s How the Evergreen Idol Karaoke Competition Works:
Beginning in June, local karaoke spots begin holding weekly competitions. The winners from each weekly competition move on to a final round (or for some locations, a semi-final and then final round). Depending on the location, between two and six singers moved on each week, resulting in somewhere between 10 and 30 finalists competing for two spots from each location. Those two winners would go on to the semi-final competition at the fairgrounds.
Once an Evergreen Idol hopeful made it to the semi-final round, they were then given a slot on one of three nights, where they would then sing against 8-12 other Evergreen Idol semi-finalists.
The final competition was held on August 28th, 2011 where the top 15 semi-finalists (5 from each of the three nights) each sang two songs: one country song and a second song from any genre.
So How Did the Evergreen Idol Competition Go For Kate?
For Kate, her journey began in June when she qualified at a number of locations around Everett. She moved easily on to the local venue finals and was qualified to go to the Fair Semi-Finals on her very first qualifying round!
When it came time for the Evergreen Idol Semi-Finals round at the fair held on August 26th, she gave a commanding performance, singing “Trouble” by Elvis Presley. Here is her performance:
Kate moved on to the Evergreen Idol 2011 Finals round on August 28th, 2011. She sang two songs: “Flat on the Floor” by Carrie Underwood; and “Bound to You” by Christina Aguilera. During the second song (which we hope to post soon), the karaoke disk failed to play, and Kate was forced with a very difficult decision: to attempt to request a different song, or sing with no accompanyment. As the addage says, “the show must go on” so after a second failed attempt to get the disk to play, Kate began to sing a capella! It was an amazing performance, the crowd loved it, and Kate won 2nd place in the competition.
With Evergreen Idol 2012 a full year away, Kate has not confirmed whether she will be participating again, although the organizers and many others are already calling for her participation. They’ll just have to wait and see what the next year brings for this up-and-coming singer!
